2006 WSOP Tournament Updates

Media tourney today. Main Event tomorrow. Here's the recaps of yesterday's action.

:: Alaei first, Williams second in Deuce-to-Seven Lowball. Already regarded as one of the best no limit cash game players in the world, Daniel Alaei (at right) continues his stellar tournament play by taking down the $5,000 + rebuys Duece-to-Seven Lowball event. Daniel has also played a part in raising the level of WCP fave Carmel Petresco's game (who just finished 26th in the $1,500 NLH event last night). This is Daniel's fifth cashing at this year's WSOP and first bracelet. Alaei defeated another strong runner this year--David Williams--for the title, as well as a final table that included Men the Master, Greg Raymer, and Allen Cunningham.

:: Mad Dog Madsen at it again. Just to stick it to his arch-nemisis E-Fro even more in this completely fabricated yet ongoing feud, Jeff Madsen makes yet another run for a bracelet, this time finishing third in the $1,000 Seven Card Stud 8/OB event. For those keeping track at home (E-Fro), this makes two firsts and two thirds for Madsen at the 2006 WSOP. Sick. On a side note, Patrick Poels won the event, outlasting 788 to bank $172,091. This is Poels second bracelet--he won an Omaha 8/OB event last year.
