Small Talk: Gold, Brenes at Featured Table

Two of the 2006 WSOP's biggest remaining personalities, Jamie Gold and Humberto Brenes, have been moved to the ESPN featured table.

Goldwsop1And surprisingly, they've stopped talking. At least as much as they have been. Or as much as they're known to do.

However, Gold talked plenty during his ESPN feature spotlight earlier today. When the ESPN crew asked if he'd played against any of the pros, Gold mentioned going up against Daniel Negreanu. He tried running a bluff on Negreanu and was called down, losing the pot. Gold admitted that while he's not as good as the pros yet, he's been playing very smart poker and picking the right spots.

Play is getting serious back on the floor. With only 85 of the initial 8,773 remaining, the gaggle of slack-jawed spectators has dwindled down. The room is now increasingly filled with family and friends of the 85 vying for the $12M prize.

One person who won't win the top prize is Annie Duke. She was recently eliminated in 88th place, a crushing blow to the woman's liberation and equal rights movement.

Taking over the chip lead is Lee Kort from Los Angeles, CA. He's stacked at 3,308,000. The other top five stacks going into break right now are 2) Michael Binger - 3,220,000, 3) the aformentioned Jamie Gold - 3,160,000, 4) Paul Wasicka - 2,930,000, and 5) Jeffrey Lisandro - 2,500,000. Allen Cunningham is just shy of a mil. And Humberto Brenes is stacked around 480k.
