Anonymous CardPlayer Rep Rips WSOP + Bluff, Reports ThePokerBiz.com

In response to its post on the pending announcement of the Harrahs-Bluff Magazine WSOP deal, new kid on the poker news block, ThePokerBiz.com, received a caustic comment from someone calling himself "Artie Fufkin" (obviously a Spinal Tap fan), that said:

“Awarded?” Buying an overpriced package from the cash hungry WSOP is hardly a coup. More realistically the folks at Bluff have bitten off more than they can chew. Would not be surprised if the fees bankrupt them. Bluff is mediocre at best, as is the WSOP, and the whole thing looks like an impending slow motion train wreck.” (emphasis added)

LizzieharrisonAfter 30 seconds of investigative work, 5 minutes for a smoke and an hour or so reading our exclusive Jamie Gold interview and Keeley Hazell Hump Day Special brought to you by "Calvin Ayre Wild Card Poker II", where you can compete for a $2 million grand prize package, and our friends at RawVegas.tv "It's Not TV, It's Dot TV," ThePokerBiz.com discovered that the "anonymous" comment came from a computer that, according to a WHOIS IP search, is owned by none other than Card Player Magazine.

Shit damn.

Student Poker
rakeback

For serious online poker players, rakeback needs no explanation, but there are still average players that do not fully understand what rakeback mean. To keep it very simple, rakeback is a way to get some of the money you have gambled on back for free. However, this is not sufficient to enlighten the more confused players, but it does sound like something all players want.

I'm going to leave the same comment I left on the Poker Biz page:

I’m surprised Card Player’s J***** M******* managed to write this “anonymous post” without any (more) egregious grammatical errors, cussing, or (more) cliched phrases.

I’m also just disappointed he didn’t keep the rhymes going:

"Buying an overpriced package from the cash hungry WSOP is hardly a coup/More realistically the folks at Bluff have bitten off more than they can chew/It’ll bankrupt them - that’s what it’ll do/Card Player is Number One and Bluff is a BIG FAT NUMBER TWO!"

Or something like that.

Good point, Steelie. I guess that rules out the IT guys at Card Player.

For the record, I would also be dumb enough to leave my IP address exposed. I always thought if you left an anonymous comment somewhere, it would be truly anonymous. Now I know.

Of course, I don't consider myself a troll, and I'm willing to stand behind everything I say. (Which is why I post under my real name.)

Truly one of the funniest things I've read in days. Awesome. Almost as good as "March Madseness", which was pure gold.

BJ - keep in mind that they have to be smart enough to spell mediocre and not confuse "coup" with "coupe", but too dumb to have ever heard of an anonymous proxy, which is sort of internet 101 for trolls. It's a fine line.

Why stop the investigation when it gets to Card Player's offices? Why not try to track down the IP address to the specific person?

I think we can rule out the field reporters who are at Bay 101 for the WPT Shooting Star tournament, because I don't think their IP addresses would show up as Card Player while they were using Verizon Wireless Cards, and certainly not if they were using the casino's network. So that leaves someone back in Las Vegas.

There is one CP employee that is probably on the tip of everyone's tongue right now, due to recent Bluff-vs-Card Player controversies. But a quick investigation seems to show that particular person has a slightly different IP address.

The only other clues seem to be in the comment itself. (Unless it was left outside of normal business hours, which would also be notable.) It's obviously someone loyal to the company who also checks out poker blogs/news sites. And how many people at Card Player can properly spell "coup" and "mediocre?"

I've narrowed the identity of the Masked Commenter down to 6 or 7 possibilities, but I consider 2 of them to be the most likely. I'm really curious about the fallout inside the CP offices because of this.
