Poker is More Luck than Skill Says UK Court

Gutshot's Derek Kelly loses appealDerek Kelly, the former chairman of the Gutshot poker club, lost his appeal on Friday after the Court of Appeal in London ruled that poker is predominantly a game of chance and not skill.

A jury last year found Kelly guilty of breaching the 1968 Gaming Act for illegally charging a levy on winnings and for charging a fee to take part in poker games. Kelly argued that he didn't need a license under the Act because poker was more akin to bridge and chess than games of chance like blackjack or roulette.
