2008 WSOP: ESPN Gets Huge Event #1 TV Final Table
2008 WSOP Event #1 ($10,000 Pot Limit Hold'em) played a grueling long second day but reached a final table packed with big name pros...and 21 year-old online poker phenom Mike "SowersUNCC" Sowers.
Leading the final table is the increasingly visible Andy Bloch with 2,115,000. Maybe not the most marketable cat around, Bloch has received a considerable amount of TV exposure the the past two years. In 2006 at the inaugural $50k H.O.R.S.E. event, Bloch took second, even though he generally outplayed eventual winner Chip Reese. Bloch also finished fifth at the NBC National Heads-Up Poker Championship last year and came in second this year.
Bloch is trailed by one-time WPT winner Nenad Medic (1,200,000) and full-time WPT host Mike Sexton.
Also at the final table is Patrik Antonius. And good timing too, as Antonius (230,000) will announce his new online poker sponsorship deal this afternoon before the final table. More details on this to come.
The rest of the final table includes the aforementioned Mike Sowers (675,000), Amit Makhija (525,000), Chris Bell (455,000), Phil Laak (425,000), and Kathy Liebert (285,000).
