Layla Kayleigh Says Decision Was Hers, Hopes Kimberly Lansing Gets Job, Is In Playboy

Layla Kayleigh and Kimberly Lansing are the best thing the WPT has had going since Shana Hiatt
Not long after we broke the news that Layla Kayleigh (with Kimberly Lansing in photo above) wasn't coming back for Season VII of the World Poker Tour, the Brit hottie hostess posted a blog on her popular MySpace page explaining that it was her who gave the WPT the proverbial shaft, saying she was asked back for a second season but decided against it for personal reasons.

Says Layla:

"Also you should know that as much fun as I had on season 6 of the World Poker Tour, I will not be returning for a 2nd season.

WPT were kind enough to ask me back for a 2nd season, however after much thought and deliberation I decided that I really want to minimize traveling in my schedule this year, focus more on my health and personal relationships, and they were very understanding to where I was coming from.

Might I add, that I had the most adventurous time on the road, learned so much about life and poker! and most importantly gained the most amazing friendship with my dear friend Kim Lansing (who I really hope lands the hosting position for Season 7)"

As we mentioned yesterday, we're also pulling for Kimberly Lansing. Don't f-it up Steve.

On the good news front for Layla and everyone still wanting to see her looking hot in front of the camera, she is back in Los Angeles doing The Feed for G4 and she'll be returning for a second season of America's Best Dance Crew on MTV.

Layla's also in the current issue of Playboy as Babe of the Month, although like she told us back in December she isn't nude and won't ever pose nude (closest you're gonna get here, here and here).

WPT Update: Official Layla Kayleigh Statement + Is Mike Sexton to Follow?

The WPT has released their official statement on Layla Kayleigh's departure:

"Layla Kayleigh brought great edge, whit, and personality to the World Poker Tour as hostess in Season VI, and we sincerely wish her well as she continues to explore her TV career. We are currently casting for the Season VII TV hostess role, and look forward to introducing her to everyone soon."

WCP votes for Kimberly Lansing to be the new WPT HostessWe can confirm that the hosting role is now in its final call back stage. No word if Kimberly Lansing (at right) is part of that final call back or if the WPT is looking to go in an entirely different direction. If we had some sort of WPT super-delegate vote though, we'd cast it for Kimberly Lansing.

Rumors are also swirling that Layla Kayleigh might not be the only WPT'er not coming back. We've heard rumblings in poker circles that Mike Sexton may also be on the outs. As commenter The Truth on our site succinctly noted:

Mike Sexton's contract is up, he is not expected to return (his wife is pregnant with his first child). Linda Johnson's last episode will be the WPT Ladies Night at Bellagio. I don't know what will happen to Van Patton. It is unknown if GSN will renew the WPT contract, the new CEO is alleged to be anti-poker. I think we are looking at the end of the WPT.

Remember the last time an anonymous commenter broke news on WCP?

While we don't think this is the end of the WPT, it will be interesting to see what direction the company will take in the near future.

WPT Foxwoods Poker Classic Shrinking, Unlike Sully Erna's Banana Next to Kimberly Lansing

Lucy_pinder_not_jc_tranThe World Poker Tour Starring Kimberly Lansing is in the middle of nowhere Connecticut this week for the Main Event of the Foxwoods Poker Classic. Action amidst the blue-haired old ladies slotting their days away got underway today at noon, which you may have heard is 9 AM West Coast time, and only a piddly 344 players have entered the $10,000 buy-in tournament, down significantly from last year's 415 and 431 the year before.

While we could postulate and hypothesize and do other things like that which require us to think a lot and put our thoughts into words about why the continued decline in entrants, let's just say it's more fun to watch videos of Kimberly Lansing. Check out one of her first videos of the day here in which she chats with banana-holding, Wicked Chops Poker Awards Winner Sully Erna, who notes that his favorite poker player is fellow WCPA winner JC Tran (in photo at right).

Leave it to a rocker to know spectacular breasts when he sees them.

There's a Chance We May Think Kimberly Lansing is Pretty

Kimberly Lansing of the World Poker Tour
We're not sure if we've mentioned this before but we think the World Poker Tour's Kimberly Lansing is really pretty. It's the kind of thing we also tell our current/first wives all the time, because it's good to remind them that we think so, to which they always respond, "Who is Kimberly Lansing?"

If you missed it, Kimberly--who will be dressing as wonder woman, Betty Boop, Princess Leia or Lara Croft at an upcoming WPT event, you pick--kicked ass at the WPT Invitational a few weeks ago, finishing 8th in a field of 445 that included a number of celebrity card tossers and many of the world's best poker players (drunk off their asses). The winner of the event, because you don't care, was Van Nguyen, who we've yet to see a photo of anywhere. All the ones we've seen just show some Asian lady (the dealer?) holding up the cash.

Below and after the jump photos of Kimberly Lansing. She's really pretty.

Kimberly Lansing Finishes 8th in WPT Invitational, Quest to Become Perfect Nearly Complete

Kimberly_lansingLost in the NBC National Heads-Up Poker Championship shuffle is the WPT Invitational at Commerce Casino.

And it would've continued to have been lost in the shuffle had WPT online video reporter and WCP fave Kimberly Lansing not finished in eighth place.

Out of 445 entrants.

For the eighth place finish, Kimberly banks $0. Only the top six get paid. Winner hauls $125,000. Leading the way at "press time" is Billy Baxter. Chance are we won't report on it again so get final results here.

Kimberly Lansing Is Down with Wonder Woman

In a follow-up to an earlier post and an early front-runner for greatest poker news of 2008 so far, WCP fave Kimberly Lansing has lost a heads-up match against Survivor China's Jean-Robert Bellande (not to be confused with Dancing with the Stars' Shannon Elizabeth). For the loss, Lansing may have to dress up like Wonder Woman (said Lansing: "I'm down with Wonder Woman") at an upcoming tournament...or Snow White...or something equally as awesome.

According to the Bodog Beat:

"The match was the result of some tough talk between the two about who was the better heads-up poker player. The bet was that the winner got to select an outfit for the other to wear. Bellande was apparently looking down the barrel of a Tinkerbell ensemble."

[shiver]

Nice work JRB on pulling this one out.

While the Wonder Woman outfit has not officially been decided as *the* outfit, it is up for consideration. You can vote for Kimberly's outfit via YouTube comments here, and we'll take suggestions in our comments section below too. Keep it clean. Keep it clean.

Kimberly Lansing and Jean-Robert Bellande Go Heads Up at WPT LA Poker Classic

Kimberley_lansing_jean_robert_bellaWCP fave Kimberly Lansing and new Bodog pro Jean-Robert Bellande, that guy with the French sounding name who was on Survivor China, are playing a heads-up match backstage at the WPT LA Poker Classic right now. On the line is a dose of humility with the winner getting to pick a costume for the other to wear at some future event.

Bellande is thinking Wonder Woman or Snow White for Lansing.

Lansing is thinking Tinker Bell for Bellande.

Please God, please let Bellande win. We promise we won't post anymore photos of hot Danish girls on bikes ever again. Today.

UPDATE: There is a God. Bellande won. Stay tune for some video of the match. In the meantime, any photoshop-ers out there with a Wonder Woman pic and some time to kill?

ANOTHER UPDATE: After the jump, a video of Jean-Robert Bellande giving his prediction for NBC Heads-Up this week.

WPT LA Poker Classic: Vinnie Vinh Still Alive, Glum Girl is Here, Benyamine Looking Slim(mer), Negreanu Backing Barack

Svetlana WPT Poker Classic David Benyamine WPT LA Poker Classic Daniel Negreanu WPT LA Poker Classic

So we made it to the Commerce today after a night of relatively moderate bedlam that kicked off at the Library Alehouse in Santa Monica and somehow ended up with us at a Laurel Canyon mansion this morning with a group of Venice Beach trust fund hippies who graffiti'd are SUV rental with Obama stickers.

We'll save that story however for our forthcoming 4-part series entitled "How We Spent the Friday Night Before the WPT LA Poker Classic."

For now, the word from the Commerce is that the action got underway almost 3 5 7 plus hours ago and we're finally getting around to writing something and we don't have much to say besides that pretty much every poker player you know this side of the Atlantic is here including Phil Hellmuth, Phil Ivey, Jamie Gold, John Phan, Carlos Mortensen, Are You Really Reading this List?, Paul Wasicka, Vannessa "Went to Duke" Rousso, Grover Cleveland, Layne Flack, Phil Laak, Josh Arieh, Rhahaeid Skaoodo, David Plastik, Barry Greenstein, Dan Harrington, Erick Lindgren, Mother Teresa, Eric Mizrachi, Scott Clements, Haralabos Voulgaris, Still Reading This?, David Williams, Freddy Deeb, We Wonder What We Should Eat for Dinner, Gavin Smith, David Singer, Lee Watkinson, Perhaps We'll Go to Panchos Tonight, Tom Schneider, Mark Seif, This Is Getting Tiring, Chau Giang, Tim Phan and Erick Seidel.

In total, 665 players started today, down considerably from last year's 791, and the total prize pool is $6,374,400, with first place set to take home $1,596,100. In 2007, Eric Hershler walked away with $2,429,970.

Of note . . .

Kimberly Lansing Will Be Traveling Less this Year

WPT Announces Season VII ScheduleThe World Poker Tour released its schedule for Season VII and unlike Kirstie Alley on Jenny Craig, the televised tour has slimmed down, with just 14 tournaments set to be televised, a significant decrease from last season's 21.

The events that were dropped from the WPT schedule include two Las Vegas tournaments (Mirage Poker Showdown and Mandalay Bay Poker Championship), the Ladies Night invitational, the WPT Spanish Championship, the World Poker Challenge in Reno, the World Poker Open in Tunica and the WTP event in Turks and Caicos which if we haven't mentioned before, its capital city is called Cockburn Town (read about our trip there back in '96 here).

The official word from Steve Lipscomb:

"Industry trends and player feedback were instrumental in creating the schedule, which focuses on marquis events to drive increased field sizes, riches prize pools and more media coverage for players. The schedule also gives players more opportunity to participate in satellites and other events and allows the WPT and the Casino partners to focus on bigger promotional opportunities around each event."

The short of it is, with the EPT doing really well over in Europe and more and more tournaments and tours entering the market in Asia, South America and the Caribbean, it simply isn't possible for the WPT to draw the requisite fields and big name players needed for a 20-event season. The even shorter of it is profitability.

By the way, we haven't asked whether WCP fave Kimberly Lansing will be back for Season VII, but considering that Lansing and Layla Kayleigh are the best things that have happened to the WPT since Shana Hiatt lounged around in her bikini on a sailboat in the Caribbean, we hope she returns. Check out our video interview with Kimberly here.

After the jump, the complete WPT Season VII Schedule . .

Jamie Gold's Mom and Robert Varkonyi's Wife Doing Well at WPT Ladies Event

Olga varkonyi pokerWhen we first heard that the debut WPT Ladies Tour event was underway at the Borgata in Atlantic Shitty we figured it involved a bunch of ladies sitting around wearing pink hats, giggling at the table, hugging each other and generally getting along like it was a Pampered Chef party or recipe swap shindig, if chicks do stuff like that, and we assume they do, rather than a serious poker tournament.

And then we thought, it's a new year and we should start things off fresh with no preconceived stereotypes about women and poker. We even remembered how the world didn't come to an end after Annette Obrestad, a woman, won the inaugural WSOP Europe Main Event last year.

And then we watched Kimberly Lansing's video blog on the WPT Ladies event and remembered that we are ridiculously goodlooking, which has nothing to do with the fact that we were right about the ladies at the WPT Ladies Tour event and everything to do with the mirror-like glare coming off the computer monitor right now.

As Kimberly Lansing and the headline above report, Robert Varkonyi's wife Olga (above right) and Jamie Gold's mom Jane are among the ladies still left in the $300 buy-in tournament. For up-to-date info on the tournament, go here.

The Ten Most Wicked Stories of 2007 - Part III

Halfway through the list after these two. Come hell or high water we will (possibly) have the list wrapped by tonight.

6) Micon Gets Rolled, Unleashes the Fuck You Machine. Do not mess with Bryan Micon. Or at least don't try to con $12k from him. Back in September, a man named Justin Smith somehow convinced Micon he was a baller with a big bank account, and eventually got Micon to "lend" him $12k with the promise of returning $100k to Micon for the favor. Of course, that didn't happen. Over the course of the next few months, Micon went on the warpath, uncovering many others who Smith "allegedly" rolled, obtaining and posting Smith's SSN (which he released one digit at a time on Neverwinpoker until Smith paid his money back), posting Smith's phone number, recording and posting numerous hilarious phone calls with Smith, going on RawVegas.tv to skewer him (here), and hitting the radio airwaves to tell his story. While the social significance of this story doesn't rank up there with global warming or how to ease Middle East tensions, it was certainly a helluva lot more entertaining to watch unfold. Hats off to Micon, king of the degenerates, for the laughs. Revisit the topic thread here.

5) Goodbye Sabina, Hello Layla and Kimberly. While at the WPT Championship in April, Wicked Chops Poker learned (and later broke the story) that Sabina Gadecki was going to get the axe. At the time, we were a little bummed. By all accounts, Sabina is a sweetheart. And not bad looking either. However, had we known that Sabina's departure would usher in the fantastically attractive and talented tandem of Layla Kayleigh and Kimberly Lansing, we would've been like, "Dammit, we're running out of good veins to put this needle." Wait, were we talking about heroin? What happened. Where are we? Anyway, one step back, two steps forward on this one by the WPT. Watch interviews with Kimberly and Layla here and here. Eugene Katchalov Wins WPTDBFDWPCASS, But That's Not the Story

Lost in the hub-bub of the big names who went deep and didn't make the final table in the World Poker Tour Doyle Brunson Five Diamond World Poker Classic All-Star Spectacular (WPTDBFDWPCASS) is that Kimberly Lansing is even better looking in person than in her WPT Online web cam vids. That's the storyline that nobody is writing about. That's the storyline that you'll only get here at Wicked Chops Poker.

Sure, Eugene Katchalov won the tournament, banking $2,482,6052. And Jordan Rich, who is a ginger and thus creepy as fuck, but also our prediction to win it all, flamed out in fifth place ($289,706). But that's not the story. Let's keep our eye on the ball, people. Interview with Kimberly below.

Half-Man, Half-Amazing Freddy Deeb Takes Chip Lead at WPT Foxwoods World Poker Finals

As the WPT daily recap put it, it was a "dog fight," for Freddy Deeb today at the World Poker Finals. This is good news for Deeb, as a dog fight beats actual fighting, which for a man of Deeb's size, would inevitably lead to something like this.

After enduring a sick runner-runner full-house bad beat, Deeb buckled down and did what he does best: play great poker. Freddy ended Day 4 play as chip leader, stacked at 1,865,000. Trailing Freddy in second overall is T.J. Cloutier with 1,614,000.

Nineteen remain, including the previous two past champs, Nenad Medic (522,000) and Nick Schulman (1,100,000).

Edler at It Again, Among Chip Leaders at WPT Foxwoods World Poker Finals

WptlogoPretty sure we can all agree that Bill Edler is having one helluva year. He's won more money than any non-WSOP-ME-final-table-ist on tour this year. He won his first WPT title in September at the Gulf Coast Poker Championship. Before that, he won his first WSOP bracelet in the $5,000 buy-in NLH short-handed event. And he started the year off with a win at the First Annual Heads Up Championship.

Edler ended Day 1a play at the Foxwoods World Poker Finals third overall in chips, stacked at 109,450. He trails Michael Farris (157,750). Other notable bigs include Kevin Saul (99,325), Tuan Le (98,400), and Roy Winston (94,450).

WPT Turks and Caicos Underway, Kimberly Lansing is Back

Kimberlylansing1_2After a one day delay that had WCP fave Kimberly Lansing bikini vlogging from the beach, the World Poker Tour Turks and Caicos Poker Classic is now underway at the Players' Club Casino in Providenciales, which is on the opposite end of the archipelago from its unfortunately named capital city, Cockburn Town.

Only 123 137 players entered the event, with the field consisting primarily of big name players from this side of the Atlantic, including recent WPT winner Bill Edler, the spectacularly breasted JC Tran (in photo below), Michael "The Grinder" Mizrachi, David Williams, Haralabalososisi Voulgarilosoisis, Phil Laak, Mike Matusow, Joe Sebok and Evelyn Ng.

Among the early eliminations are Victor Ramdin, J.J. Liu, Antonio Esfandiari and Jennifer Tilly.

Despite the small turnout, the WPT is guaranteeing a $1 million first place prize, and as the WPT live reporters have noted, "[w]ith the total prizepool yet to reach that number, there might be some changes to even out the prize money distribution a bit."

Watch Your Back, Prahlad Friedman - It's the Wicked Chops Poker Rap

We are HUGE fans of ourselves. Just huge.

So when all of our scouring the Internet for pictures of hot girls and loosely tying them into posts about poker hard work gets noticed, it makes us feel, oh we don't know, "validated" we guess.

On Saturday night, we got a text message from Nordberg alerting us to watch out for a WCP rap from our favorite WPT girls, Kimberly Lansing and Layla Kayleigh. So we watched for it. We waited. And it has arrived. Part I is below. Part II is after the jump. Also, some Layla Kayleigh pics from a 2005 Maxim here.

This Is Hot

If the WPT did as good of a job hiring cool, hot girls to work for them (both on camera and in the offices) as they did just generally running their business, they'd be the freaking Microsoft of the poker industry. A Microsoft with cool, hot girls.

Case in point is the Legends of Poker wrap-up with Kimberly Lansing and Season 6 hostess Layla Kayleigh. Note to Lipscomb and crew: a sure-fire way to spike ratings as you move to GSN would be adding a segment to each broadcast called something like, "Layla's Thoughts On Poker While Sitting on Kimberly's Lap." Trust us this shit works. It's a very simple formula. Maybe a tickle-fight here and there wouldn't hurt either.

Bill Gazes Is Not Very Athletic

Finally somebody put this up on YouTube. If you missed last week's 2007 WSOP Main Event broadcast, then you missed poker pro Bill Gazes' epic attempt at kicking a field goal and celebrating joyously afterward. And by "kicking" we mean "not kicking." And by "celebrating joyously afterward" we mean "getting bonked in the head with a football while on the ground in pain."

In semi-related unrelated news, Bill's ex-wife Kristy Gazes won the Season 6 WPT Ladies Night Event in the looks department and by outlasting her competition at the table, which included Linda Johnson, Pamela Brunson, Mimi Tran, Melissa Hayden and JJ Liu. Watch the WPT's fantastically cute Kimberly Lansing interview Gazes after the jump.

U.S-American Dan Harrington Wins WPT Legends of Poker For $1.6M, Can Now Buy 88,888 New Green Caps, Such As

If we wrote for Card Player, we'd probably start this post by saying something like, "It's only fitting that a true legend of poker won the WPT Legends of Poker at the Bike."

JctranBut instead, we'll write this like Miss Teen USA South Carolina, which is pretty much the same thing.

I personally believe that 1995 WSOP Main Event champ "Action" Dan Harrington who is from the U.S. America, has claimed his first WPT title, winning the Legends of Poker at the Bike, such as.

Harrington defeated David "The Dragon" Pham*, who is from the Asian countries. Such as for the win, Harrington banks $1.6M which he will hopefully be like Barry Greenstein and spend on charity in the South Africa so they can buy maps because children are our future.

With the second place finish, the Pham now moves into first place in the Card Player's the POY standings, replacing the J.C. Tran (at right), who has spectacular breasts. I personally believe that having spectacular breasts is some-a, something that all children should aspire for, because spectacular breasts are our future, teach them well and let them lead the way.

Joe Sebok Does Not Make WPT TV Final Table; WPT Confirms That David "The Dragon" Pham* Is Not a Real Dragon

Earlier in the week, we noted the underrated good work of WPT tournament reporter Kimberly Lansing. And kind of like Flight of the Conchords or Keely Hazell wearing short shorts, the more we watch, the more we like.

Right before the WPT Legends of Poker final table went from 9 to 6, Lansing confirmed something we've been reporting for years but has somehow gone unnoticed by the so-called "mainstream" poker media: that David "The Dragon" Pham** is not a real dragon. Watch that video below. Pham however is at the TV final table, making it in as the short-stack.

Not joining him is Joe Sebok, who finished 7th in a WPT main event for the second time in 2007. Peter "Nordberg" Feldman finished 13th.

The chip leader going into final is that damn Tom Schneider guy, who also captured 2007 WSOP POY honors. Schneider is stacked at 3,495,000. In second is Dan Harrington with 2,230,000. Thu Nguyen (1,475,000), Shi Jia Lu (have fun with that name Mike Sexton -- 1,305,000), Mike McClain (725,000), and the aforementioned Pham (475,000) round out the final table.

WPT's Kimberly Lansing is Fun to Watch

We're not huge fans of the World Poker Tour's Steve Lipscomb but one thing the capitalistic commie lover got right lately was hiring pretty girl poker host Kimberly Lansing to do the WPT's online video reporting. Lansing, a USC grad who also does reporting for People Magazine and Hollywood.com, has been doing the WPT gig ever since Season VI got underway and has done so surprisingly without much fan fare. Looking at her WPT page on YouTube, her videos on average get just about 100 or so views which is about 14,533 less views than a video of paint drying.

This is strange since Lansing is way hotter to watch on video than paint drying.

For a sample of Lansing's engagingly goofy and charmingly cute approach to poker coverage, watch her latest video from the WPT Legends of Poker here.

Also worth the watch is Lansing's interview with the poker princess of narcissism Brandi Hawbaker, a must view for any would-be creepy stalker who wants to know where Hawbaker is living now in LA. Finally after the jump, our favorite Lansing videos so far, one with Erica Schoenberg and the other with Layla Kayleigh.
