Durrrr Million Dollar Challenge Begins: Round 1 Goes to Durrrr

The much hyped Tom "durrrr" Dwan Million Dollar Challenge kicked off against Patrik Antonius on Full Tilt Poker today.

The two played 1,541 of the required 50,000 hands, with durrrr ending the session up $134,911.50.

David Benyamine, Patrik Antonius, Phil Ivey Accept Tom "Durrr" Dwan's $1M Challenge

Tom-durrrr-dwan
This million dollar heads up challenge could end up being Durrr's second worst idea ever.

So it's popping up here, here, and here that David Benyamine, Patrik Antonius, and Phil Ivey have all accepted Tom "Durrr" Dwan's $1M heads up challenge.

For a recap, as first reported by Bluff Magazine here, Durrr said:

“I’m making this heads-up challenge to the world. Anyone can accept. Four tables, minimum of $200/$400, and I’ll put up $1.5 million to their $500,000. We play 50,000 hands minimum and if they end up a dollar after rake they keep the side money or whatever. So basically, if you and I played and you won a dollar, you would get my $1.5 million and if I won a dollar I would win your $500,000.

“So I’m giving a million dollars free if anyone thinks they can do it.”

No shocker that Ivey jumped all over that, even though he usually plays two tables at a time versus Durrr's four. Not surprised that Antonius and Benymaine (reportedly) have though. Ivey had the best line regarding the challenge so far, saying on Tuesdays with Ivey:

"I've never posted a challenge because I just assume everyone knows I'll play anyone in any game."

Ivey said it's possible at these stakes you could lose $5 to $10 mil. Should be fun. We'll keep you posted.

ESPN Kicks Off 2008 WSOP Programming Tonight with One Helluva Final Table

Phil Laak and hopefully Jen Tilly's breasts (above) will be among the big name pros you'll see tonight on ESPN when it airs Event No. 1 of the 2008 WSOP.

ESPN's 2008 World Series of Poker programming officially kicks off tonight at 8 pm ET with the big-name-loaded final table that had our lawyers rushing off to the patent office to claim The Year of the ProTM for us.

Going for his second WSOP bracelet in this year's debut event, the $10,000 Pot Limit Hold’em World Championship, was Mike Sexton, while Patrik Antonius, Phil Laak, Nenad "Serb" Medic, perennial runner-upper Andy Bloch, Mike Gracz's cell mate Chris Bell, and noted online players Amit "amak31" Makhija and Mike "sowersUNCC" Sowers all were gunning for their first.

One-time bracelet winner Kathy Liebert, a woman, was also at this final table but because we already told you this was a $10k buy-in World Championship event, we gave away the fact that she doesn't win tonight. Sorry for the spoiler.

But does she come in second??? Watch tonight to find out.

For chip counts going into the final table check out our coverage here.

If you don't remember who won and don't want to spoil it, don't go here.

Patrik Antonius Before He Took a Big Hit to End the Day

Patrik Antonius was one of the chip leaders until the last hand of Day 1B when he lost like half his stack. So unfortunately this vlog was before that happened.

That's the bad news.

The good news is, at least if you're a 2+2'er, that you probably just creamed in your pants when you saw this video.

2008 WSOP Day 1B Update: Robert Mizrachi, Erick Lindgren Among Chip Leaders

2008 WSOP Main Event railbird

Robert Mizarchi and Erick Lindgren are somewhere in the Rio Amazon Room at the 2008 WSOP.

It'll be an interesting day. With turn-out a little under expectation for Days 1A and 1B of the 2008 WSOP Main Event, everyone is hoping for a strong surge of registrants this weekend. Actually, that's not very interesting at all.

A little more than half the starting field survived play yesterday, with 615 poker players moving on to Day 2. A couple of "some guys" are big stacked, with Ben Sarnoff (177,500) and Brian Schaedlich (160,725) atop the leaderboard.

Of the pros who have formally formed a consurtium of sorts to pile-drive home The Year of the ProTM, The Grinder's bro Robert Mizrachi is among the big stacks with 142,400. Other pros still in pursuit include the wildly underrated until we keep saying that and make him overrated Alex Balandin, oh wait never mind we're thinking of Alex Bolotin (109,925), Erick Lindgren (92,325), Barny Boatman (80,600), the blind guy from last year Hal Lubarsky (70,700), Hoyt Corkins (67,525), Erik Seidel (64,925), Patrik Antonius (64,125), Vanessa Rousso, a woman, who went to Duke (48,450), and 2007 WSOP final table-ist Alex Kravchenko (45,300).

For a list of those who have departed us from the 2008 WSOP Main Event, read here and here.

Poker Pro Patrik Antonius Not The Best Looking at His Table?

Hot girl photo at 2008 WSOP Main Event

This will probably bring us a deluge of hate email from 2+2'ers everywhere, but Patrik Antonius is not the best looking person at his table right now during the 2008 WSOP Main Event.

While this girl certainly isn't a 10, she's pretty damn attractive, definitely qualifies as "poker hot," has a fantastic rack and is even better looking than our photos lead one to believe.

2008 WSOP Day 1B Update: Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? Bueller?

Dan Druff at 2008 WSOP Main Event

Todd "Dan Druff" Witteles (bottom left) among the many "name pros" eliminated on Day 1B.

All right, seriously y'all, where the fuck are you?

Apparently you're all waiting to play Day's 1C and 1D, because you're not here. Only 1,158 registered today.

And when the fantastic WorldSeriesofPoker.com's list of "10 Top Notables" includes Tony Hachem, Neil Channing, and Barney Boatman (as of post time), you know it's slim pickings for big names.

Unfortunately, as noted earlier many of the top pros playing today have since departed. That list continues to grow as a steamed Greg Raymer busted and bolted, canceling all of his media gigs on his way out. Joining him on the rail include Kenny Tran, 2006 Main Event champ Jamie Gold, Orel Hershiser, Peter "Nordberg" Feldman, and Scott Fischman.

Going into the last break of the night, some guy named Brian Schaedlich is big stacked with 107,000. Other notable big name pros "Keeping the Dream AliveTM" for The Year of the ProTM include Patrik Antonius (82,000), Hoyt Corkins (70,000), Robert Mizrachi (70,000), and a still-at-the-featured-table Erick Lindgren (66,700).

In related news, we've learned there are just over 5,400 people confirmed registered runners for the 2008 WSOP Main Event as of post time. With satellites running around the clock and many people still traveling here this weekend, there is still an outside shot of besting last year's total. Although that's still fairly unlikely.

However, as we witnessed just an hour or so ago, that didn't stop Mike "The Mouth" Matusow from making a $10k wager with Phil Gordon on a 7,500 +/- entrant prop bet. Matusow, who is not known for being an astute prop better, is the one taking the over. Good luck with that. Listen for some play-by-play action of this with one of the Entities on ESPN.com's Poker Edge radio show in a couple of days.

And finally in unrelated news, Dancing with the Stars' Shannon Elizabeth was seen in the Rio Amazon Room holding hands with Derek Hough, so guess they're still a couple and out in the open about it, which is great news for the .0001% of our readers who give a shit.

BREAKING: Daniel Negreanu and Patrik Antonius Playing High Stakes Heads-Up Golf Match

Patrik Antonius and Daniel Negreanu heads-up golf match

Daniel Negreanu and Patrik Antonius are in the midst of a large cash sum (amount unconfirmed) match of high stakes golf.

The match is taking place at TPC Summerlin. Just yesterday in his vlog Patrik said that he still "sucks at golf...but still gambles big."

Guess he didn't waste any time putting his wallet where his mouth is.

He also said that he'd never take any golfing advice from Daniel. Maybe that'll change after today?

RawVegas.tv will have video footage of the match available tomorrow. In the meantime watch Erick Lindgren's legendary golf prop bet from last year's World Series of Poker.

UPDATE: Daniel was down around $85k on the front 9 but came back and is now up $55k. Developing...

WSOP News Flash – Marcel Luske Seen Wearing Jeans

(Post by Michele Lewis, a woman. Read more from Michele on her blog michelelewis.com.)

Patrik Inside the WSOP Amazon Ballroom is serious business for players such as Patrik "not a hot chick" Antonius (right photo); however, step into the hallways and you will find a WSOP - Wanderer Seeking Out Pros for a light, to change 100 for a Krispy Kreme donut and whine a bad beat story to people that are looking for a light to curb the desire to buy a Krispy Kreme donut and hide from the players they owe money that whine bad beat stories. Whew, what a run-on.

Not WSOPing, I bumped into Marcel Luske who (looking suave but not Gerado Rico suave) was wearing jeans instead of a suit. Normally, I would post something really important like “Today I saw a guy wearing jeans at the WSOP” or “ I saw Phil Ivey wearing a Full Tilt hat” but this was a rare moment in poker. I had just posted Jeffrey Pollack and Luske were not wearing matching suits on Friday. Which was poker sarcasm because poker sarcasm is allowed on WCP as opposed to other sites where poker sarcasm is not allowed.

Patrik Antonius Full Tilt Poker Press Conference

Right before the 2008 WSOP Event #1 ($10,000 Pot Limit Hold'em) final table began, Full Tilt Poker held a press conference to announce its signing of Patrik Antonius to a sponsorship deal.

FTP brought out its heavy hitters for the conference, as Antonius was flanked by Phil Ivey, Howard Lederer, and Chris "Jesus" Ferguson. Footage of the press conference below.

The final table for Event #1 is still going on. Antonius was eliminated in seventh, banking $124,080. As of 10pm Sunday night, only four remain with Andy Bloch still holding on to the chip lead, stacked just shy of 3 mil.

He's followed by Nenad Medic, Kathy Liebert (a woman), and short-stacked Mike Sexton.

The aforementioned Ferguson is among the current chip leaders in Day 1b of Event #3 ($1,500 NLH). The tournament set a record field with over 4,000 runners. Day 1a chip leaders included David Robertson (109,100) and Shane 'Shaniac' Schleger (89,000). We'll have a full recap of that tomorrow. A very, very undetailed and lazy recap.

2008 WSOP: ESPN Gets Huge Event #1 TV Final Table

2008_wsop2008 WSOP Event #1 ($10,000 Pot Limit Hold'em) played a grueling long second day but reached a final table packed with big name pros...and 21 year-old online poker phenom Mike "SowersUNCC" Sowers.

Leading the final table is the increasingly visible Andy Bloch with 2,115,000. Maybe not the most marketable cat around, Bloch has received a considerable amount of TV exposure the the past two years. In 2006 at the inaugural $50k H.O.R.S.E. event, Bloch took second, even though he generally outplayed eventual winner Chip Reese. Bloch also finished fifth at the NBC National Heads-Up Poker Championship last year and came in second this year.

Bloch is trailed by one-time WPT winner Nenad Medic (1,200,000) and full-time WPT host Mike Sexton.

Also at the final table is Patrik Antonius. And good timing too, as Antonius (230,000) will announce his new online poker sponsorship deal this afternoon before the final table. More details on this to come.

The rest of the final table includes the aforementioned Mike Sowers (675,000), Amit Makhija (525,000), Chris Bell (455,000), Phil Laak (425,000), and Kathy Liebert (285,000).

The photo to the right of her is a grab from some foreigny interview she did last summer on Lake Mead with Fabrice Solier (view video here).

A quick update from Day 2 of the EPT Grand Final in Monte Carlo . . .

Patrik Antonius, Juha Helppi, Vicky Coren, a woman, and Noah Boeken have all been eliminated on Day 2 of the EPT Grand Final.

Also gone today is Team PokerStars Daniel Negreanu, who was so confident he was going to win the tournament he already had shirts made celebrating his victory, or at least that's what he jokingly told the growing-on-us cute Kara Scott in the video below. Everyone Thinks Doyle Will Win

The much ballyhooed high-stakes heads-up match between Doyle Brunson and Patrik Antonius is getting nearer, and most everyone we talk to thinks that Texas Dolly has a decided edge. Doyle gets to pick the games, and he will likely stay away from Antonius' specialties: no-limit hold'em and pot limit Omaha.

With 10 games of poker to play at over 7 figures per game, someone could get a major hurting put on them.
